sorry message was duplicated by phone . please delete this thread. ]]> Hello and Welcome da glass man http://www.torchbugs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7248 hello from austin texas http://www.torchbugs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7247&goto=newpost Thu, 02 Sep 2010 16:49:05 GMT hey all been here a few days now and have enjoyed reading the contributions made by many of the members. i started flameworking around june and have... hey all been here a few days now and have enjoyed reading the contributions made by many of the members. i started flameworking around june and have no plans to stop. unfortunately i found myself at the young age of 35 injured at work and unable to work. now over 4 years later the severity of my injuries are finally comming to light. despite the insurance company and their doctors efforts to cover and hide any symbalance of a truthful and accurate diagnosis, i now know that my spine is broken and that i have 4 herniated discs which has been allowed to debilitate me unchecked since feb. 06. long story short it has left me permanantly disabled. i have been fascinated by glass and lampworking for over 20 years so in light of my current situation i decided i needed a plan for what i was going to do with the life i have left. i starting discussing with my dw and ds the possibilty of selling out all and buying an rv and a concession trailer to outfit as a mobile glass studio so we could travel and do glass for a living. but had no idea where to begin as i have had no income at all for over 2 and a half years. it has been tough and we have and still are struggling to keep from losing everything. anyway my son showed an immediate intrest that to my disappointment but no big surprize wained as the newness wore of. he was a bit impatient and impulsive and purchased a begginer kit from one of the local hobby stores that we both dove into initially with equal zeal. 2 days later his went away and i became frustrated with a torch that lost its performance just 2 mapp canisters in not to mention the valve started leaking and i was smelling gas while operating it(not safe at all). the company who makes it did replace the head but the results i had with the replacement were similar except for the leak. daunted i had no idea where to go from there. no funds to purchase good equipment and little hope of finding a solution to connecting my dreams and wants with reality. i found an agency here called d.a.r.s.(department of assistive and rehabilitative sevices.they agreed to help at least voccationally. tried one place but they mainly made pipes and such so state said no to that for obvious reasons and we had to find a better option. during my prior research here in town i had already been to blue moon who were so wonderful and helpful & even though they did soft glass and i was interested in boro they rcomended a place whrere i could get training to do that , but the state as i said, said no. but they said yes to blue moon who,s owners and staff i am deeply grateful to for all their help and encouragement. jim & rose have been instumental in working with d.a.r.s. to get me going with classes and in getting in my equipment to begin working on my own. i was able to pick up my 2 oxygen generators last night after a class with jim that day as well as a class with donna menhert last night. i have a red max with a mega minor top on its way as well as propane tank oxy. tank and a miriad of other goodies to work with. oh and of course a copy or passing the flame. 3 classes left with donna as well as a 2 day class with marcy lamberson on the 11th & 12th. i am excited that things are begining to come together and look forward to having lot's to share with all of you in the future. a huge thank you and shout out to jim berry and rose berry of blue moon as they will always have a special place in my heart.
ps sorry this was so long a post. wasnt my intention when i started but i tend to be long winded and never shut up... can ya tell!!!? lol

This happening during the Labor Day weekend couldn't be worse :eyeroll: for our tourist invaded area. :sad: Evacuating this area will be a mess if this storm turns westward a bit more upon it's approach.

Yesterday I cut back tree branches from our home. Hubby tuned up and checked the generators over the weekend. All the vehicles will be gased up along with storage gas containers for the generators. As the reports keep coming in I'll be putting away pool deck chairs and umbrellas. Already have plenty of water, food, batteries, etc.

If it's path changes over the next 36 hours and it brings it closer I'm OUT OF HERE!!! No joke! I'm not riding out another hurricane in this area.
