Oh - and I've decided I'm also going to protect my psyche by not reading any of the "Girl with - " series either. So anything but those for next time please. . .
Reading these reviews I think I made the right decision to not read "The Road".

You did make a good choice! It was a well written book but I am still thinking about it. (Is that good or bad?) I guess a good book is meant to make us think about it even if we don't always agree with it. Kind of like other art forms.

Kevan I think I would like something "light and maybe funny" this time.

Even though it's not a long book and I would take part in a discussion about it, I would not read it again. Not because it's a badly written book, quite the opposite. There were images produced from this book that still bother me. And, though I really like Viggo Morentsen, I don't think I would want to watch the movie.

It's bleak, to say the least.
Kevan, my husband and I read the book several years ago when it was first released. To this day we both are disturbed by several parts of the book.

Interesting though, the longer time passes, we seem to take on much different views of what the author was truly trying to convey to the reading audience.
